Glastonbury 2014 will be known as “The Year Metallica Headlined”. It’s a choice that is so different from the norm, so out there and has sparked so much controversy that, whether you like them or not, Glastonbury 2014 will be remembered for Metallica, just like how 2008 is remembered for Jay-Z. Just like how Michael Eavis teased them earlier this year, Metallica are one of the biggest selling bands in the world right now – with over 30 years worth of material, and their constant touring; indeed, they are famous for their amazing live performances and stage show. James “YEAH!” Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and co are often celebrated as one of the best live musical acts in the world, and Glastonbury is a huge deal for them, just as they are a huge deal for Glastonbury.
Even if hard rock or metal is not your forte, which it is not for a lot of Glastonbury goers, they promise to put on an astounding live show with pounding percussion and some of the greatest solos the Pyramid stage will have ever seen, and probably a hell of a lot of pyrotechnics and surprises too. Have faith in Michael Eavis – he has booked the right people for the Saturday night headline slot, and they will absolutely smash it out of the park (or, well, farm). It will be the most talked about performance of the festival by quite a margin, so catch it and embrace your inner hard rocker.
